Lassen Activities
From day hikes, backpacking, and mountain lakes, to stunning landscapes and geothermal hotspots, there’s no shortage of things to do in Lassen National Park. If you’re up for a short road trip, there are several other beautiful landmarks just a short drive away.
Manzanita Lake Hiking Trail at Lassen Park
This easy trail in Lassen Volcanic National Park winds gently around Manzanita Lake and is an ideal choice for families or others unable to hike on difficult terrain. This trail is shaded by looming Jeffrey pines and bordered by lush willows.

*Lassen is a wonderful place to hop in the car and go exploring. We recommend either printing or screenshotting maps. Be sure you can find your way back as you move around Lassen if you don’t have service.

With over 150 miles of hiking trails, both day hiking and backpacking are popular summer activities. Don't miss Lassen's active hydrothermal areas including Sulphur Works and Bumpass Hell. Note that due to snow pack, the Bumpass Hell trail usually does not open until early to mid-July. The summer is season is also a great time to enjoy ranger-led programs and special events.
Other summer actives include; bicycling, swimming, fishing, ATV riding, whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, and riding motorcycles!

Lassen receives more than 30 feet of snow on average each winter! The season often begins in October and persists through June or July. Snowplay, skiing, sledding and snowshoeing are great ways to enjoy Lassen's winter wonderland. If you're new to winter at Lassen, join us for a ranger-led snowshoe program offered on weekends.

McArthur–Burney Falls Memorial State Park is the second oldest state park in the California State Parks system, located approximately 6 miles north of Burney, California. The park offers camping, fishing, watersports, hiking and horseback riding facilities. The park is mainly known for the waterfall, Burney Falls, at the entrance of the park. Wildlife in the park includes bass, trout, Steller's jay, squirrels, woodpeckers, deer, and on rare occasion, black bear.
